Unit 2 Where's the post office?

 Part One

Teaching aims and demands :

1.Grasp the words about the locations. post office ,library , hotel ,video arcade ,bank ,supermarket ,street ,pay phone ,park .

2.Use some prepositions such as across from ,next to ,between , in ,on etc.

3.learn to ask for and give directions on the street. You can help somebody who needs .

Analysis of the materials:

In this unit, students should learn some nouns about the locations ,then use some prepositions. To talk about the neighborhood. Through doing that ,they learn to ask and give directions on the street .That is the important part and it’s also the difficult part in this unit.

Teaching and learning methods:

Use some pictures to teach the new words and use context to consolidate. Build up the situation to practice the key sentences.

Teaching aids:

Recorder, some pictures about the places, a simple map.

Teaching procedures:

 Teacher’s activities

 Student’s activities

1.Teacher show some pictures about the places to design these places eg, post office…,(show these pictures one by one, and ask What is it?)Correct their pronunciation one by one.

2.Consolidate these words though listening and recognizing.

3.Pair work

—Is there …near here?

—Yes, there's a... on Center street.

4.Show a simple map to recognize the prepositions of place.Ask students to look at the pictures in page 1to ask and answer.

5.Ask students to talk about their city.

1. Students look at the pictures carefully, then answer teacher's questions and repeat after the teachers.

2.Put the correct words under the pictures

3.Listen and circle the places on book.

4.Students work in pairs to practice the pattern using these nouns.

5.Ss look at these simple maps to know these four prep., then they finish the exercises in page2/2a/2b.After doing that, in pairs ask and answer

—Where is the …?—It's...

6.Ss work in groups of four to say some sentences using these prep. eg. HUA LUN supermarket is on the north street.

Homework:

1.Make four sentences using next to, between, across from, on.

2.Draw a picture of your neighborhood.

Part  Two

Teaching aims and demands:

1.Grasp descriptive words such as new ,old ,dirty, clean.

2.Design the left----right, straight.

3.Ask for and give directions on street.

4.Learn to help each other.

Analysis of the materials:

This part is the most important in this unit .Students must learn to design the map and give directions on street. After learning ,they should point out how to get their home.

Teaching and learning methods:

Transform information and finish the tasks the teacher gave.

Teaching aids : recorder, a simple map.

Teaching procedures:

 Teacher’s activities

 Student’s activities

1. Design the left and right through using their left hand and right hand. Put up their hands, stand up to turn left and right .Through these activities to design the left and right .

2.Finish the 3a,3b in page 3.Share the answers with the students .

3.Ask them to look at the books to match the words with the pictures .

4.Tell them the descriptive words equal to the adj. Ask them to finish 3a.

5.Ask them to finish the 3b.Point out sample answer in the blank.

6.Ask one student to describe his neighborhood .

7.Ask Ss to design their ideal school and choose the best designer.

1.Ss follow teachers and use their hands , then they stand up to act “turn left /turn right”.

2.Ss read the conversation in 3a and find Nancy and Paul in picture.3b: Complete the conversations in pairs.

3.Finish 1a and use the descriptive words to make the sentences.

4.Ss read the 3a silently ,then circle the words. Ask one of them to tell the others the answer. Check each other.

5.Ss finish 3b by themselves and check the answers together.

6. The others listen and draw the picture.

7. Ss works in group of four to discuss ,then tell their plan in class.

Homework:

1.Sum up this unit and finish the Self-check

2. Pre-revise the Unit2.
